Dr. Joseph Shevel,

BA, MA and PhD degrees from the Hebrew University (Israel) and New York University (US) in Geography, History, Economics and Management.

Former lecturer at the University of Haifa, Department of Economics and Management Studies, University of Haifa (ED). Former lecturer at the Technion (Israel Institute of Technology) and Bar Ilan University, Israel.

Member of the Israel Prime Minister’s Committee on Social Policy; Member of the Environmental Committee of the Haifa Region (under the auspices of the Israel Ministry of Energy) and Director and Coordinator of several joint European–Mediterranean networks in the field of management and economic development. Associate at Harvard University and the University of California, Berkeley. Senate member of the Euro-Mediterranean University (EMUNI), established in Slovenia under the auspices of the European Union.

A frequent guest lecturer and keynote speaker at the Vibrant Gujarat bi-annual conference in India, speaker at Moscow State University and much invited guest lecturer on economic and social development through higher education, climate change and the Israeli start-up experience at many leading universities in Africa (including Kenya, Tanzania, Zimbabwe, Botswana, Nigeria, Ghana, Burkina Faso).

Actively works towards peace-making in the Middle East and the Horn of Africa. Member of the East African Security Forum since 2012 and an active member of the Asian University President Forum since 2005.

A senior member of the Mediterranean Peace Forum (Lecce, Italy), led delegations and discussions between Palestinians and Israelis in an effort to reach a peace agreement. Lectured at the United Nations University – Leadership Academy in Amman (Amman University) on leadership, management and the economic prospects in the Middle East following the peace agreement. Active member of the World Public Forum – Dialogue of Civilizations.

Dr. Shevel Initiated the peace accord between Ethiopia and Eritrea. He presented his plan during 2016-2017 to the President of Eritrea and to the Prime Minister of Ethiopia. They accepted his peace plan and sign the peace accord. Dr. Shevel was nominated to Nobel Peace Prize of 2019. Dr. Shevel continues in his efforts to solve conflicts in Africa and presented a peace plan for Nigeria and Boko Haram terror group.

Dr. Shevel was one of the key note speakers in the World conference on Blue Economy in Kenya in 2018.

The Green Economy Coalition www.greeneconomycoalition.org is the world’s largest multi-stakeholder alliance committed to the transition to green and fair economies.

Made up of over 50 organisations, the Coalition brings together NGOs, business, research and international bodies who are united by a vision of prosperity for all within the limits of the planet. The Coalition’s purpose is to accelerate the transition to green economies by building evidence, tracking the status of the global transition and convening diverse stakeholders around shared policy goals.

Prior to this role, Oliver led WWF UK’s Sustainable Business and Economics work, where he pioneered systemic stakeholder change programmes: One Planet Business, One Planet Finance and One Planet Economy.

Before WWF, Oliver managed change in the public sector and in industry, as the senior strategist for the BBC World Service and as a business strategy consultant for Booz Company.  He has degrees in engineering, business and economics and has worked with many organisations and cultures for social, environmental and economic value.
